Rail Mapping Study
A series of interactive maps, produced by the University of Louisville, identifying the nation's most dangerous rail crossings and those with the most number of accidents involving HAZMAT.

In 2007 there were 735 accidents (derailments, collisions, etc.) involving freight trains carrying HAZMATS

Citizens for Rail Safety is a non-profit public interest group dedicated to improving rail safety, security and capacity in the United States. RAIL GRADE CROSSING SAFETY
was the topic of two recent conference in Massachusetts and  Illinois.

The  2008 Eastern Region Rail Crossing Safety Conference Boston, and focused on the latest developments in highway rail-grade crossing safety.

During this conference, Citizens for Rail Safety announced the findings and recommendations of a new study by The University of Louisville: Safety at Rail Crossings. (The full report is available to the public--please inquire.)

The DuPage Railroad Safety Council held its Safety Summit: Prevent Tragedy on the Tracks—2008 by Promoting Sealed Railroad Corridors in Oakbrook, Illinois.

CRS Executive Director Patricia Abbate was a panelist at this event. The mission of this important Council is to prevent deaths and injuries at railroad crossings and along railways.
